James' Colorful Green Garden.....

Can you believe it? It all started with some tiny seeds and black dirt and with a little water and some hard work look what we have created. It's our own little green garden. First came the radishes and boy were they good. Now we have green beans and peas. The cabbage, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes are sure to come next. We have a lot of green tomatoes, but I'm sure the color is soon to come. This garden is a joy for our whole family and hopefully will be filled with many memories.

How DOES James garden grow?......Quite well, you can see...

My mother in-law gave me some gourd seeds and wow don't they look great now. I can't wait to see the gourds.
We'll what do you know I might just be a farmer after all. The corn is up and is almost as tall as my son. The ears of corn are soon to follow I hope.
Wow, I have half a garden full of tomatoe's both cherry and regular. I 'm going to have to get those canning jars ready. We have a lot of green tomatoe's that will soon be turning red. I can't believe that I am actually have success at this.

James' Garden Grows Well.......

The whole garden and I can't believe it is still growing strong. Everything that is but the carrots, they did not turn out as well and we may have to plant some more. The peas and green beans are sprouting all over are we are sure to have some canning to do. My wife has done an excellent job of cleaning up the garden and getting all the weeds out of it. I am proud to say that my tomato plants are doing well and I have some strong plants. The milk cartons are doing a great job of helping out the less fortunate tomato plants. I have been lucky not having to water the garden as it has been raining a lot and mother nature has helped us in providing the necessary moisture that we need.

Look at the Hot Pepper Plant. WOW I can't believe it looks so good! Soon I hope to have my first red pepper.

No, that is not WEEDS you are looking at, it is my field of corn. The garden was weeded and as you can see my corn has started to grow. I hope to have a full harvest.

This is my first squash plant that I planted and I got my first bud. Can you find it?

As for the picture on the far right, these are my my first pea sprouts. I remember as a kid, eating peas right out of the garden, soon my kids can join me in our garden eating peas.

Last, but not least, The Radishes. These were the first to appear. As you can see, they need a
little thinning.

Lucky for us, I haven't had to do much watering. Mother Nature has been very kind in providing plenty of water as it has been raining for the last week. I'm toying with the idea of making my own rain barrel my wife showed me on the internet. It looks like a great idea to save on my water bill. My mother-in-law also told me that rain water is the best water for your garden. I have to say I am very excited to be able to show my parents the success so far of my first garden.

The Milk Carton

Your probably wondering what this picture is all about. A milk carton in the garden? Well its all about creating a green house effect. My wonderful mother in-law told me about this after seeing the way some of my tomato plants were looking. This is a way to help the less fortunate tomato plants.

Rain, Rain, Don't Go Away.....

Well, it's only been two days since I introduced you to my garden and five days since the first seeds were laid. I spent the afternoon yesterday and today watering my garden. Then, Mother Nature took over and she hasn't stopped yet. Flash flood warnings have been posted, but I certainly don't want it to go that far and see my garden washed away! I have been checking for any signs of growth, but nothing yet. The anticipation of seeing the first seed pop through the rich soil I purchased, is indescribable. My wife thinks I should use Miracle Grow, which I probably will if it ever stops raining.

How it all started.....

It all started with a driveway full of dirt. My wife and I spent a day and a half emptying the dirt from the driveway to the backyard where the garden was developed. I purchased some plants and some seed packets from my friendly neighborhood hardware store. I put the rake and hoe to work and started to plant my tomato plants. I put in a couple of green bean plants and a green pepper plant here and a red pepper plant there. Then I planted four rows of corn and it almost seemed like I was on the farm. I then started with the seeds and I got some radishes in the ground, next came the carrots, and some peas and green beans. I then finished with a squash plant and a zucchini plant and a broccoli plant. I then got the water running and watered my garden down. I am now hoping that with a little help from Mother Nature that I will have a garden to be proud of.
